A Lion Learns

A Lion must learn

How to carefully tread

Walk slowly and with purpose

So not to trample unknowingly

He must never show ferocity

In any wrong direction

Or with any ill intent

To the ones he vows to protect

Whether his beloved tamer

Or the gentlest little lamb

His guidance is golden

Only if given unconditionally

He must remember this

Above all

In his weakest moments

They will build him up

Always if he holds true

To the code of the Lion

The Loyalty, and Courage

Strength and Honor

Pride held in highest regard

For the ones who need him most

Yet truthfully

He would walk forever lost

Without those he keeps

Ever vigilant guard over

Who am I?

This is a very important piece for a very important friend.

She knows who she is, and I hope she realizes what she means to me.

Question_mark_by_GraveUnicorn

Why is this my reality

That the person I am

Is not who I wish to be

Stumbling out of the gate

When running to a friend

My arrival always too late

Holding cards to my chest

When they should be on display

Leads to cases of unfair unrest

Scars so visibly shown

The insecurities of a life’s war

The kind I don’t want to own

Own them though, I must

Else I do my friend disservice

Hold her back in ways unjust

Take for granted special things

From friendship gifted unto me

Humbly she hides her Angel’s wings

A foolish man walking a crooked mile

Without knowing his destination

Ends up nowhere and without a smile

So a friend in need will always be

A friend indeed and clearly present

When the chips are down for me

So my question is just who am I?

That keeps you by my side

When those wings could see you fly?

Always alert and ever steady

Powerful protection at the ready

Family, friends and lovers know

The ferocity burns not just for show

This heart of steel has iron pride

Guardian angels at my side

Safety felt by ones who trust

Vengeance shown to those unjust

Pick a side and you will see

Where loyalties lie when spirits free

Choose wisely which cheek to turn

The foolish choice will surely burn

Those in my heart will all agree

A lion’s loyalty for all to see

One misstep and hear my roar
